The First Company

   The first Boy's Brigade was established in North Wooddside Hall, Glasgow, Scotland called the 1st Glasgow Company. The Comapny was established by mainly Sir William  Alexander Smith helped by John and James Hill.  

  When the door opened at 8.00 p.m. on the 4th October 1883, 59 boys came for the first parade and it soon decreased to 35.

   The parent body of the 1st Glasgow company was the Free College Church. The 1st Glaggow Company held religious activities and also established firmly the Twin Pillars and the Object, Motto and Emblem of the Bb.

   The first camp was held in a sound and weatherproof building at Tighnabruaich of the Kyles of Bute in 1886.

  Camping spread rapidly and camping under canvas soon  became the normal order of the day. The Founder's Love of Camping And His Early Open-Air Life On The Rugged Caithness Coast Naturally Led to his Sympathy With  All Boyish Sports. Football took the lead in the North followed by Cricket and Athletic Sports. Soon the 1st Glasgow Company was established firmly.
